Selvedge Magazine Publishes ‘The Ring Of Fire’ – Article about Indonesian Textiles

I am very pleased to share my epic article written for Selvedge Magazine about my textile travels in Indonesia. The title ‘Ring Of Fire’ is taken from (and a homage to) the mind blowing documentary series by brothers Lawrence and Lorne Blair made throughout the 1970’s. This is incredible film making in a wild remote corner of the world; made well before digital film or mobile phones. It’s amazing to watch and imagine them both posting back canisters of 16mm film during their 10 year filming schedule. Inconceivable compared to the way we film now. When I was in Indonesia I was lucky enough to see Lawrence and talk about textiles with him. He is the most wonderful looking man; a riot of colour with a rainbow hued parrot on his shoulder. Regular Significant Colourists will have seen my Indonesia posts so I hope you enjoy this too.
