Ercol Studio Couch – Redux

After a visit to INTERIORS 2012 on Tuesday I felt a real sense of pride at having some of my fabrics upholstered onto the ERCOL classic ‘Studio Couch’ for part of the FABRIC PAVILION. It was the first time I had seen the large-scale Vortex design on a piece of furnitire…slashes of vibrant Ikat bands reaching across the couches surface brought a real sense of drama to the occasion. Above our heads massive panels, totally outsized, also showed the graphic print. To me they seem to have a quality that makes them hard to place on a timeline… contemporary yet also somehow retrospective at the same time? Perhaps much like the couch itself designed in the late 1950’s  by Lucian Ercolani himself… a modern classic.

Huge thanks to Ruth Wassermann, Head of Design at ERCOL for making it happen…
